Used and existing cars

Lease a used car. Or the car you already own.

Novated leasing isn't just for new cars. You can lease a recent-model used car through our verified channels, or convert the car you've already got into a novated arrangement through sale-and-leaseback. Two paths, similar structure once the lease is running, different vehicles.

Two paths

A used car you'll buy, or a car you already own.

The two paths are different in how the car comes into the lease, but very similar once the lease is running. Each works under standard novated leasing structure: salary packaging, bundled running costs, comprehensive vehicle insurance. There are a few specifics worth knowing about. A note on GST: the ex-GST treatment that applies to eligible new cars within the luxury car threshold doesn't apply to used cars or sale-and-leaseback. Salary packaging still applies; the GST saving isn't applicable.

Path one

A used car, sourced through verified channels.

A used-car novated lease works the same way as a new-car lease, with three differences worth knowing. The car is sourced through our verified used-car channels (dealers, fleet auctions, or vetted private sellers) so we can stand behind the condition. Used cars need to meet age and kilometre criteria to qualify (typically under twelve years old at the end of the lease). Finance terms tend to be slightly shorter than for new cars, reflecting the car's remaining useful life.

Path two

Convert the car you're already driving.

If you own your current car outright (or you're close to paying off the finance), you can convert it into a novated lease through a sale-and-leaseback. The mechanics are simple: the financier buys the car from you at market valuation and leases it back to you on a fully-maintained novated lease. Cash from the sale comes to you . From the outside, nothing changes: same car, same parking spot, same rego. Your running costs now come through your pay; the cash from the sale is yours.

A used-car or sale-and-leaseback path has a few more variables than a new-car lease. The fastest way to figure out whether either path makes sense for you is a five-minute call.
